Font Creation | Freelance
I was commissioned by Ban.do, an LA based design house specializing in gifts and accessories, to make a “secret code” typeface using icons drawn by illustrator, Allie Newman.
ban.do is a lifestyle brand based in Los Angeles that designs clothes, accessories, gifts, and stationery. Their stuff can be found globally in over 1,000 department stores and boutiques, as well as online at bando.com. The company is inspired by the power of friendship, and works to create an inclusive “girl gang” of friends and customers dedicated to all things fun. As a perk for ban.do girls, I created a 26 “letter” type-able font, that could be used to do anything from sending secret emails to your bestie, or making diary entries no-one can read.
To make this font I used Illustrator and Fontlab to translate 26 vector icons into evenly spaced OTF filetype.
The font is available for download on https://www.bando.com/. It is called the #bandogirlgang secret code. A printed key of the font is included with the purchase of their signature agenda, alongside cute stickers.
